In 1958, the Monahan family came from New York and settled in Atlantic Beach. At that time, John Monahan was just 12 years old. As an avid reader and collector of rare things of antiquity, his passion and collection grew over time. In 1977, with a small loan Monahan Coin & Stamp Company was born. Those were difficult times for the nation. As interest rates rose and gold prices climbed, John expanded his inventory into gold jewelry and diamonds.

Having an eye for value born from years of collecting, John's focus became the estate jewelry business. Shortly thereafter, Monahan's evolution brought in diamonds, and more diamonds. Growing, gaining the trust of and satisfying the needs of the community, quality at a good price became our namesake. In 1980, John moved Monahan’s into our current Jacksonville store location, a free standing building located at 619 Atlantic Blvd, six blocks from the ocean, in Atlantic Beach. At this new jewelry store business boomed. That was then and this is now, Monahan’s is a multi-million dollar operation with possibly the largest inventory of fine jewelry in town. Monahan Jewelers is owned and operated by John's son, Sean Monahan and Monahan's friendly and knowledgeable staff of over 20 years.
